Spandau Ballet on 12-hour party bender through Cannes

It was more Bolly than Ballet as the Spandaus rampaged through the bars and clubs of Cannes.
The re-formed New Romantics took us on a 12-hour party marathon to announce their comeback tour.
It all began soberly enough, with shots of tequila on the beach, before a cruise of the Cote d’Azur on a luxury £1million gold-lined boat.
Martin Kemp told us: “The longest stretch I’ve had is four days of no sleep, just being on the road partying.
“It goes with being in a great band. I told my wife Shirley that. Let’s be real, it’ll be like we’re 18 again.”
The lads are so obsessed with booze Tony Hadley is even launching his own ale, called Hadley’s Gold.
But it is lethal shots of tequila which the band use to loosen their vocal chords. Tony said: “Everywhere we go, we’ll take a massive flat case of tequila we’ve called Slammer 1. It’s been with Spandau since day one.”
We’d always had them down as nice boys. But as they downed drink after drink on the French coast, their partying tales put us in the shade.

Gary Kemp said: “We were in Montreal with the Beastie Boys. They heard we were hardcore so invited us for a drinking session on Jack Daniels.
“We kept going until one of them puked up, screaming for his mother.
“Another time, the night before we recorded Band Aid, we had a drink-off with Duran Duran. Steve (Norman) was so plastered he had to be carried off in a stretcher.”
It’s not big and it’s not clever, boys. The tour starts in Europe in October and the ageing rockers are not about to slow down.
John Keeble said: “We can take on Oasis. They are nice boys, pussycats. We’re real rock ’n’ roll.”
No wonder they sometimes forget their lyrics.
Tony said: “I’m ok with classics like Gold.
“But for some songs, I ask my wife to Google the lyrics. And if I forget some on our new tour I’ll point the mic at the audience for our fans to sing. They give me a ticking off if I forget, though.”
Laying off the tequila might just help, Tony.
