Andy has a pretty nice new site, where he's streaming a re-done version of Wild Boys Here: Andy Taylor Music
Also, here is his blog from June 1:
That Epiphany Moment
July 4th 2009 - Will mark a significant turning point ...
But it was about a year earlier as I was sprawled on the beach, frustrated by the same old chain of excuses, that I had that epiphany moment...
The music business has often been described as a greasy plastic pole, & there's always been plenty of slime to go around.
But of late, it has become virtually impossible to climb, even for many who thought they had a grip - Everybody is just slipping away, faster & faster.
The once savvy Executives & Directors, turned their backs on technology with staggering arrogance, stupidly believing that they had some control into the gateways of your mind, because the physical security & access to any music product was theirs to wield & flow
Or so they thought...
But not very street wise-guys' ... If you leave the backdoor of a great-club open, then you will eventually have everyone using the free entrance because they know only a handful will ever get caught & be forced to pay.
And no doubt, they will still enjoy the evening, maybe even a little more because they didn't get stuffed for €70 at the club entrance
Therefore, how are you going to reprogram these people to pay for what has become Universally accepted as Free -
This is the problem labels are now faced with - an entire generation that have grown-up with Napster, Limewire, Torrents & Acquisition but to name a few.
And as for the club owner, well he was to dumb to realise there was a backdoor into his world for free, & he's still trying to workout how his e-mail account functions - fuck it just get your secretary to print them dude !!!
SO... What did the morons think was happening everyday on Myspace for the past 6-years - free music & free choice !!!
They seemed to find it difficult to process that a network of 150,000,000 people was much more valuable than the cost of a download or its streaming derivatives
How the fuck was MTV built - free videos for the Station & the Nation as they were laying down cable, the technology of the day
So how come all the smart-arses missed this opportunity.
They didn't, I believe that even in the early days of the internet - most people at executive level understood the threat ahead
Consequently, most of the really good record people are long gone, just like Wall st.
Its a funny old business music, unlike for example the car companies, it has the ability to trade in both current pop culture & nostalgia.
EMI can re-issue Beatles music without re-tooling their entire production facility, however I would be impossible to make a fleet of cars for re-issue from the same period.
Most companies rely on their corporate reputation, most labels rely on their artists notoriety, & the badder it gets the bigger the profit.
"Ooh your just a label hater Andy, to many bitter experiences" ...
Well it's easy to pull that line on me - but actually I don't think Ive had such a ruff ride, in fact most successful artists witness more destruction than they probably take part in...
"What not to do" in life is just as useful as "What to do"!!!
So - What not to do??? Keep Flogging a Dead Horse - or at Best a Lame one
Go have an Epiphany or at least a few quiet days at the beach... But no more Donkey rides!!!
Part-2...
My dream was about a Big Bowl of Pumpkin Soup, why was it Pumpkin - maybe there is a vegan involved
In this scene there were 4 other people carrying this big white steaming bowl of soup, we converged at the end of a hotel corridor - which felt somewhat familiar
They passed the bowl to me & told me that it was mine now & to do with it as I wished, but that I must never ever drop it - and man, it was seriously bloody hot...
"Soup for One" is a Chic song...
TBC ...
