AMBER IS ROCK CHIC
Duran Duran star's daughter hit the catwalk aged three, now she's modelling at Scots bash
By Lindsay Clydesdale
AMBER LE BON made her catwalk debut at the tender age of just three years old when she walked hand in hand with her supermodel mum, Yasmin.
Now 18, she is returning to the runway for the first time since, to star in a fashion show in Glasgow next week.
With her long, glossy hair, olive skin and dark eyes, she's certainly inherited her mother's stunning looks.
But in her first interview, Amber, daughter of Yasmin and Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon, said she's not sure she'll follow in her famous mum's footsteps and thinks she resembles her father instead.
"I think I look more like my dad," she said. "I don't think I really look like my mum, but I've definitely got her colouring. People do sometimes tell me we're similar but I don't think so."
Her dad was almost as famous for his Eighties fashion style as his singing, but Amber doesn't mind.

"I've seen lots of pictures of my dad back then, but I'm not embarrassed about them," said Amber. "I could never be embarrassed by my parents in that sense, although they like to embarrass me anyway. I think it's cool that they liked dressing up."
Her parents met after Simon saw a picture of top model Yasmin in a magazine. After several requests for a date, she finally agreed, thinking they were going to the cinema.
Instead, Simon took her to the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It was love at first sight and the couple married a year later.
In 1989 when Amber was born, Yasmin was one of the highest-paid models in the world, and returned to the catwalk within weeks of giving birth. Their second daughter, Saffron, was born in 1991 and Tallulah in 1994.
Amber was often backstage at her mum's shows and aged just three, she delighted the glamorous audience at a 1992 Chanel show in Paris, when Yasmin walked her down the catwalk.
"This will be the first time I've been on a catwalk properly," Amber said, referring to next week's show. "The only other one I've done was with my mum when I was tiny, I don't even remember it.
"I've seen the photographs, we have them at home and mum and dad showed me them, but I really don't remember it.
"Apparently it was quite funny, I certainly look like I was having a good time."
Amber makes her official catwalk debut as a model on Thursday at the AllSaints Runway Show for Glasgow Rocks! Along with Rod Stewart's daughter Ruby, Amber will be modelling the boutique chain's autumn/winter range at the live music and fashion event to launch the Merchant City Festival.
The show, in aid of NCH Scotland, the children's home charity, is now just days away and Amber is feeling more than a little apprehensive.
She revealed: "I am so nervous about the catwalk. I have a huge image in my head of me tripping up and falling flat on my face.
"It would be a very me thing to do, I am so clumsy. I had a reputation for being clumsy when I was younger. I used to walk into doors and I once walked into a wall, I don't know how that happened."
DESPITE her mum's wealth of experience and the millions she earned as a model, Amber hasn't asked her for any tips.
"I think I'm going to get a crash course on modelling and walking this weekend," she said.
Even if the show reveals she has the same style and poise as her model mum, Amber is not sure she wants to model full-time. In her last year at school and taking A levels in history of art, photography and music, she's not sure what she'll do after her exams.
"I don't really know, at the moment I'm torn," she said. "I want to either go to art school and do photography and art, or study history of art. I'm not quite sure yet.
"I'm not looking to go into modelling, but this is for a good cause and it's just a one-off, not a serious career decision. I'm way too young to be thinking about that. Besides, school is kind of taking up most of my time at the moment."
She might be the eldest daughter of two very famous parents, but Amber says her life as she was growing up never seemed unusual.
"I had a really normal childhood," she said. "I wasn't brought up around all that hype. It's really, really normal for me having them as my parents.
"They're very happy for me to decide for myself what I want to do when I finish school.
"Unfortunately they won't be able to watch me come down the catwalk next week. Dad is in America and mum is doing a charity fashion show that night as well."
Although she's nervous, Amber's not about to be brainwashed by the culture of skinnyness currently ruling the catwalks. At 5'10" and a dress size 10, she is larger than many top fashion models - Erin O'Connor is a size eight, while Kate Moss a size six. In comparison, Amber's healthy figure proves just how extreme the taste for tiny figures has become.
"I am not a typical model size," said Amber. "I am quite tall but my dress varies between a size 10 and 12 so I'm not as thin as most models.
"But I definitely wouldn't want to be any skinnier. I wish it wasn't such a big issue. Young girls see all the hype about size zero models.
"Some people think the pictures of them are attractive and that makes it worse. Size zero models are bad and the industry has to be careful about its image.
"There are some people who are that body shape and they shouldn't be criticised if that's who they are, but we shouldn't all have to feel that we should look like that."
