If you made your own "Greatest" CD - what 19 tracks would be on it and why?
You don't have to pick the songs that best represent Duran Duran or what have you; just the 19 that best explains why you're a fan. ;D
(Eep, now, can I answer my own question?!)
1) Bedroom Toys
It's cheesy as all get out, but it was the first song that resonated when I listened to Astronaut - and had I not listened to Astronaut, I probably wouldn't be on this board right now. ;D
2) Watching the Detectives
The best cover - EVER. Simon makes the song so threatening and sexy, it's probably one of my top five favs.
3) UMF
Lots of fun and full of personality.
4) Love Voodoo
I think of UMF and LV as two sides to the same coin - I know that doesn't make any sense, but let's run with it.
5) Last Chance on the Stairway
Probably my favorite Duran song. Close your eyes when listening to this one and it's like you can fly.
6) Hold Back the Rain
Rocking and danceable and it sounds great live.
7) The Seventh Stranger
Gorgeous song - the most succesful on on 7&tRT I think. And I really dig John's lines on it. ;D
8) Vertigo (Do the Demolition)
I sort of write sometimes, and I like songs that help me, that write the scenes themselves. That's how I feel about Vertigo. It's got a darker tone like Watching the Detectives, but less threatening.
9) Friends of Mine
It really furthered the Duran obsession - plus, I have a Hard Rock Live clip of this where Nick wears a pink cowboy hat.
(that's worth it getting a spot, right?)
10) Planet Earth
Those ba ba ba's got stuck in my head and a love affair was born.
11) Ordinary World
Because there is no other song in the world with beautiful lyrics like these. Especially the second verse.
12) Palomino
Because there are very few songs in this world with a more beautiful melody.
13) Meet El Presidente
A lot of people hate this song, but I adore it. It gets stuck in my head all the time.
14) Hallucinating Elvis
I know, I know. I'm the ONLY person that loves this song! I can't help that I have bad taste!
15) So Long Suicide
It's where I got my counter name, probably my favorite off of a very strong album.
16) Skin Trade
Another questionable choice that I can't really explain - the song's fun and I love it. End of story.
17) Rio
I'd be lying if I didn't say I love Rio.
18) Electric Barbarella
Highly addictive and it converted both my best friend and sister into full blown Duranies, so that has to count for something.
19) New Moon on Monday
I like songs where Simon plays around and tries something different. The effort is appreciated Si!
