Avril Lavigne
Like so many other singers these days, Avril Lavigne is venturing into acting. But, thankfully, she's slowly easing into it instead of taking some cheesy starring role.
After recently finishing her world tour, Lavigne is taking a break from music to take a role in Richard Gere and Claire Danes' upcoming flick, The Flock. She's currently in New Mexico filming her few scenes. A management representative told MTV.com that the 21-year-old is running through her lines and "testing the waters" for the independent crime drama after successfully passing her audition.
The pop-punk princess' voice is also being used for a possum named Heather in the DreamWorks animated film, Over The Hedge. The movie, due out in May, will also feature the voices of William Shatner, Bruce Willis and Gary Shandling.
Lavigne has started writing songs for her third album, but isn't likely to start recording until at least midway through next year. She's also expected to make select live appearances throughout 2006.
In the meantime, Lavigne and fellow CanadiansSum 41, Billy Talent and K-OS are joining Duran Duran, Black Eyed Peas, Deftones and others in recording John Lennon songs to raise money for Amnesty International. The organization is launching a youth-oriented music campaign in January, and the Lennon covers will be available to download from the Amnesty website.
Chantal Kreviazuk accompanies Lavigne on piano on her cover of "Imagine," which was produced by Marvelous 3's Butch Walker. " I did a mellow version," Lavigne told Rollingstone.com.
Billy Talent perform a sped-up version of "Cold Turkey" that they recorded at Bryan Adams' Warehouse Studios in Vancouver. K-OS and Deftones both take a crack at "Jealous Guy," while Black Eyed Peas have chosen to sing "Power To The People" for the cause. More details are expected in the coming weeks.
