Every year, Nick and Katy choose what films, actors, actresses, directors and songs should and will win an Academy Award. So for the year 2006, Rhodes and Krassner give the Oscar to:
BEST PICTURE
WILL WIN: Both Nick and Katy agree that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will win BEST PICTURE.
SHOULD WIN: Katy thinks CAPOTE. Nick is going to second that.
BEST DIRECTOR
WILL WIN: Ang Lee will win it, say Rhodes and Krassner.
SHOULD WIN: Ang all the way...But we both think the Nominations in this category aren't very reflective of what should win.
BEST ACTOR
WILL WIN: Philip Seymour Hoffman (CAPOTE) has it locked in.
SHOULD WIN: P-S-H. He even rocked the trailers.
BEST ACTRESS
WILL WIN: Mrs. Phillipe - ok, Reese Witherspoon (WALK THE LINE) -get your speech ready.
SHOULD WIN: Felicity Huffman (TRANSAMERICA), we love you. However, you will have to settle for the Independent Spirit Award.
SUPPORTING ACTOR
WILL WIN: Nick is putting his money on Jake Gyllenhaal's Jack Twist (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN). Katy thinks the Academy is going to award George Clooney for SYRIANA.
SHOULD WIN: Flipping! Katy thinks Jake G. was the heart of BROKEBACK. Nick thinks George kept SYRIANA together.
SUPPORTING ACTRESS
WILL WIN: This is always the hardest category for us. We both think Rachel Weisz will probably walk away with it for her performance in THE CONSTANT GARDENER.
SHOULD WIN: Nick is sticking with Rachel all the way though. Katy thinks Michelle Williams (can anyone even believe she was Jen on "Dawson's Creek"?) deserves it for her role in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.
ORIGINAL SONG
WILL WIN: We think the Oscar will go to "Travelin' Thru" from TRANSAMERICA
SHOULD WIN: In a year when there is a nominated song called "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" (HUSTLE & FLOW), what do YOU think we'd pick?
ORIGINAL SCORE
WILL WIN: BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Haunting and good.
SHOULD WIN: Ditto
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
WILL WIN: We both think the Los Angeles voting block is going to give the Award to CRASH
SHOULD WIN: Nick thinks SYRIANA should get it, though it kills him to vote against Woody. Much surprised at Nick's lack of loyalty to the Woodman, Katy is going with MATCH POINT, one of the best movies of the year.
SCREENPLAY ADAPTATION
WILL WIN: That's easy - BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN...
SHOULD WIN: ...but not fair. We both think CAPOTE deserves the Gold.
ANIMATED FEATURE
WILL WIN: WALLACE & GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT say us two.
SHOULD WIN: 2-4-6-8 - Who Do We Appreciate? WALLACE! GROMIT! Our friend Simon chimed in on this one, claiming W&G "the best movie of the year!". Good thing he isn't an Academy voter....
Til next year!
