“It’s great to be having Duran Duran at Edinburgh Castle this summer. We first put them on at the beginning of their career and, twelve studio albums and 70 million record sales later, we’re delighted that they have agreed to return to Scotland to play this truly unique venue,” said Barry Wright.
The stats on Duran Duran are sensational: they have achieved 30 UK Top 30 hits and 18 in the USA. Their extensive catalogue of timeless songs include some of the most unforgettable tunes of the past three decades; ‘Planet Earth’, ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’, Save A Prayer’, ‘(Reach Up For The) Sunrise’, and ‘Rio’, to name but a few, and ‘A View to a Kill’, which was the only Bond theme song to chart at #1.
Despite the occasional pauses and some re-grouping in the 1990’s the band are as relevant today as they have ever been. On their last studio recording, Red Carpet Massacre, they worked with top producers Timbaland and Nate ‘Danja’ Hills, as well as, lifelong Duran Duran fan Justin Timberlake. They are currently in the studio writing and recording with ‘uber’ producer Mark Ronson. To this day they maintain a global presence that guarantees them huge concert audiences on five continents. More remarkable still is the way they have achieved this, fusing pop music, art and fashion with a unique sense of style and confidence.
“We are currently in the studio, working on new music,” reported singer Simon Le Bon earlier today, “so are only going to be doing a handful of special dates this year. When the offer to play in this historic location presented itself, we were all keen to make it happen. It’s been a while since we’ve played in Scotland – but have always had a great time playing to audiences there.”
Rebecca Hamilton, Marketing and Media Manager at Historic Scotland said: “We are delighted to have Duran Duran play on the Edinburgh Castle esplanade. Without doubt, they are one of the best bands to have emerged in the 80s and have continued with cracking sounds ever since. This venue on a summer’s evening with a excited crowd will have an electrifying atmosphere. Could it be one of the best concerts on ‘Planet Earth’ this summer? Absolutely.”
